CFC Oceania Kids Village (OKV) Experience

The Oceania Kids Village (OKV) was an amazing experience for my sister Anika and me. It was held at the picturesque Hamilton Gardens. At the OKV, we learned a lot about loving more and ways to achieve this. Also, we learned new songs such as ‘Called to Love’ and ‘All of My Days’, which I think were quite catchy. Saturday was the first day of the camp, and we started by having our praisefest outside the hall. We were introduced to the new songs before we started dancing to these very meaningful songs. Anika says:

“I liked learning the new songs because it was a different way to learn how to love more.”

After the praisefest, we had our first session, which was  “The Project to Love”.

Kuya Sean, Kuya River and Ate Carmela were the hosts and they taught us what the Love project was about and why God wants us to do the mission in a very exciting way. I found this first session interesting as we got a good insight into what we were going to learn. The second session was on discovering other ways to love. There were ates and kuyas that went to a museum where God seemed to be explaining to them each of the exhibits. The most interesting part about this session was learning that there are so many different ways to love. After the sessions, the older kids played games while the younger children had a special Eucharistic adoration with Father Antoine Thomas. After Mass, both groups switched over and we had our closing worship before we all attended the GLEE show. Our delegates from Sydney won the competition.

Sunday was the last day of the OKV. The first thing we did was go to  Mass. One of my new experiences was reading the first reading and the responsorial psalm. I felt blessed to be able to read the Word of God. After the Mass, we once again had our praisefest. We then had our final session, which was called ‘Project Accomplished’. Kuya Sean, Kuya River and Ate Carmela once again hosted the session. We learned how to accomplish the mission and more importantly, the steps we needed to take. These were loving God back, involving others to love and being joyful. The last session helped us to finally understand what we needed to do to love more.

In conclusion, the OKV was absolutely brilliant. We both found it very amazing, with kids gathering and worshipping the Lord like never before in their lives, enjoying the days with parents and friends with so much fun and most of all, learning a lot on how to “Love More”.
